Outdoor Living

There’s no shortage of outdoor play in Pittsburgh and the surrounding tri-state area. If you’re a water baby you’ll love the proximity of Pittsburgh’s three rivers that punctuate the cityscape. On any given weekend the City’s three rivers are dotted with kayakers, rowers, and our award-winning dragon boaters.

Looking for more adventure? White-water rafting on the Youghiogheny River is only a short drive away. If rock climbing is your thing, you will find plenty of single-pitch sport, trad, and tropin’ areas tucked into the local landscape, all within a couple hours' drive. Taller or multi-pitch climbing will require a short road trip (road trip!) to neighboring West Virginia, where local climbers feed their addiction at The New, Summersville, and Seneca Rocks—arguably the tallest rock requiring technical climbing on the East Coast.

Maybe you like to keep both feet on good ol' terra firma? If that’s the case you’ll appreciate backpacking through one of Pennsylvania’s many woodsy trails, including the Appalachian and the trails that cut through the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Yeah, we have one here, too.
